A look into Olympic golfer Manon de Roey’s life

Born on 12th December 1991, the 32 year old golfer from Belgium is competing in her second Olympic tournament. As of yet de Roey has not won any Olympic medals.

Hailing from Antwerp Belgium, she started playing golf at the age of 11. In her interview for Ladies European Tour de Roey recalls how she was into sports as a young child. She says how she was interested in Tennis and was often on the ski slope.

She also says how hockey was a big part of her life. de Roey played Hockey for almost 13 years from the age of five until she went off to college. So when did the transition to gold take place?

Father and Brother inspired to play golf

Manon also reveals it was her brother and father who introduced her to the game. Manon says, “ It was kind of my dad and my brother. They went first to gold and they said you should come and try and so I went there. My first shot was like 100 meters straight. I was like oh this is pretty easy.”

De Roey also adds, “ when I started there were a lot of kids from my same age and it was just fun. We were having fun on the gold course”Soon enough Manon became a part of the Belgian National team in 2008 and competed for the European Girls’ Team Championship

Accolades and wins

On 14th May, 2022 Manon won the Aramco Team series in Bangkok and recently she won Investec South African Women’s Open with a margin of 4 strokes against England’s Gabriella Cowley.

De Roey also has 3 LET Access series wins under her belt. She has won WGPA International Challenge twice, in 2018 and 2019. She also won the Santander Golf Tour LETAS Valencia in 2019.

Paris Olympics will be Manon’s second Olympics her first was in 2021 for the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
